First Slovak officer to lead NATO Counter Intelligence Centre of Excellence

The NATO Counter Intelligence Centre of Excellence (NATO CI COE) hosted a ceremony of very special significance to Slovakia today (30 September 2019). On his appointment as the first SVK Director of the NATO Counter Intelligence Centre of Excellence, Colonel Martin Achimovič officially took over the post during the handover/takeover (HOTO) ceremony. Alongside this ceremonial act, NATO CI COE also officially extended the list of its Participating Nations by the United States of America. Currently, a total of 11 NATO Member States are thus involved in strengthening the security environment and the ability to predict risks and deliver a flexible response to today’s hybrid threats. In attendance at the ceremony in Poland were Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš and Director of Military Intelligence Gen Ján Balciar.

Through its line-up of activities and contributions since its establishment in 2016, NATO CI COE has successfully followed through on its ultimate goals and priorities in the field of counter intelligence. With the significant support of several NATO Member States and institutions, today it ranks among the reinforcing pillars in reaction to current variable and changing security issues and threats in the regional and international context. The Centre’s cohesion and effectiveness result not only from close Polish-Slovak cooperation, but also from the coordinated efforts of all participating countries and entities that are the mainstay in delivering the set intentions with impact.
