Iraqi War College representatives visit Slovakia

Four Iraqi generals from the War College of the Defence University for Military Studies in Baghdad arrived in Slovakia for an official visit to the Armed Forces Academy (AOS) Liptovský Mikuláš on 26-27 September 2019. The Iraqi delegation was led by the Dean of the War College, Maj Gen Sattar Jabbar Kadhim KADHIM. He was accompanied by representatives of the NATO Mission Iraq (NMI), namely Lt Col Nikolay Nedyelkov (Bulgaria) and Björn Lagerlof (Canada) as well as by representatives of the SVK MOD, namely the Director General of the Human Resources Department (SVK MOD), Brig Gen Boris Ďurkech and the Director of the International Relations Department (SVK MOD), Július Demetrian.
During their visit to AOS, members of the Iraqi delegation familiarised themselves with AOS’s mission and structure and visited its Departments of Electronics, Information Technology, Engineering, Military Tactics, Art of Operations, the Simulation Centre, and the International Courses Branch, where they learned more about their capabilities in furtherance of AOS’s tasks.
Organised under NATO’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP) Iraq, this activity was aimed at briefing the Iraqi generals on the tertiary education system according to the European Union’s Bologna criteria and on the education system for career progression of Slovak Armed Forces service members.
The Armed Forces Academy Liptovský Mikuláš, a NATO-accredited training institution, presented potential areas of cooperation to the Iraqi guests, especially in the field of soldiers’ career development programmes in the form of English language courses for the operational and tactical command and control (C2) levels.
The Iraqi delegation also visited the Memorial to Fallen 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps Soldiers in WW2 and the Memorial to Contemporary War Veterans in Háj-Nicovô.
