MOD plans to undertake complex reconstruction and upgrade works to Sliač Air Base

The SVK MOD is planning to undertake complex reconstruction and upgrade works to Sliač Air Base in order to meet all the criteria for delivering the defence of the Slovak Republic, while enabling the Slovak Air Force to operate the new F-16s out of the base, once the fighter jets are delivered. The Cabinet approved the project proposal today (2 October 2019).

The planned reconstruction and upgrade works to Sliač Air Base envisage, for example, the reconstruction and addition of new taxiways, the reconstruction of a spare parts storage depot and an electrical substation, the building of a new entry point to the village of Sielnica, and the reconstruction of the maintenance hangar. Under the project, an aircraft wash-down stand, an ammunition supply point (ASP), and other structures are to be built within the grounds of the airfield as well.

The costs of the preparations for and implementation of the planned reconstruction and upgrade works to Sliač Air Base are estimated at more than 55 million euros with VAT included. The works are to be completed by the end of 2022. The project will be carried out in line with the 2030 Long-Term Defence Development Plan and the SVK Government Manifesto Commitments 2016-2020.
