Today (3 October 2019), members of the Parliamentary Committee on Security and Defence adopted an approving stand on the Active Duty Soldiers State Service (Amendment) Bill 2019, which aims to make the Service conditions in the Armed Forces more attractive. Also thanks to the new remuneration system, this is one of the measures through which the SVK MOD seeks to increase the competiveness of the military profession on the job market and stabilise the levels of experienced, educated, trained and linguistically proficient soldiers. The Amendment Bill still needs the Parliament’s yes vote.
SVK Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “Ever since we took on the leadership of the MOD, we have directed our efforts into doing everything in our strength for our soldiers in terms of material and financial provision. We plan to live up to what we have promised to our soldiers still in this election term, be it an improvement in the conditions of their everyday work, and we are gradually making progress on this pledge, or the deliveries of new advanced military assets.”
The Active Duty Soldiers State Service Amendment Bill reckons with several novelties. Under the new arrangements, Service pay will consist of two elements – rank-based pay and appointment-based pay. Rank-based pay will account for 1/3 and appointment-based pay for 2/3 of Service pay. At the same time, appointment-based pay in relation to the appointment and rank held may be increased by up to 50%, with one of the determinants being the character of the appointment itself. Another novelty is a year-on-year increase of 1 per cent in Service pay for every year of service.
