Minister Gajdoš meets with Cypriot Ambassador M. Stavrinos

Today (28 October 2019), Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Slovakia, His Excellency Mr Michalis Stavrinos, as his Diplomatic Service appointment draws to an end. During their meeting at the SVK Ministry of Defence, they reviewed the successes of the bilateral defence cooperation and underlined the engagement of Slovak Armed Forces personnel in UNFICYP, Cyprus.
Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “Slovakia has supported the Cyprus peace process in the long term, which is evidenced by the active engagement of Slovak Armed Forces personnel in UNFICYP, where our soldiers have served in Sector 4.” As he further noted, 240 SVK soldiers are currently serving in Cyprus and the Slovak Armed Forces are ready to deploy specialists for demining operations to Cyprus, if requested.
During the meeting, Minister Gajdoš updated Ambassador Stavrinos on the NATO and EU commitments Slovakia is delivering on, the progress it has made in modernising its land and air systems, and the PESCO projects it has been involved in.
