MOD marks International Veterans Day with Act of Commemoration and Run in Tribute to Veterans

To mark International Veterans Day and the 101st anniversary of the WW1 Armistice today (11 November 2019), an Act of Commemoration dedicated to victims of both World Wars and all armed conflicts was held at the Petržalka-Kopčany War Cemetery, Bratislava. Representing the SVK MOD at the ceremony were State Secretary of the SVK MOD Marián Saloň and General Secretary of the SVK MOD Ján Hoľko.
The traditional ‘Run in Tribute to Veterans’ was symbolically organised at 11:11 as part of the event. Nearly 200 runners participated in the 5.2km run. It was also joined by Anastasiya Kuzmina and Matej Tóth, the sportswoman and sportsman of the Dukla Banská Bystrica Military Sports Centre, as well as by cadets of the M.R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš.
Also today, red poppies and leaflets on the history of Red Poppy Day and the red poppy as a symbol were handed out to the public by members of the Slovak Armed Forces in Bratislava, Prešov, Rožňava, Trenčín, Zvolen and Žilina.
