Results of PhotoAttack and Gallery MIL 2019 announced in Trenčín

Results of the Defence-wide PhotoAttack and Gallery MIL 2019 Competitive Displays were announced at a ceremony at the Trenčín Garrison Club on 14 November 2019, in the presence of Director of the Slovak Armed Forces Personnel Office Col Ivan Sálaši and other guests.

Col Sálaši pointed out with satisfaction that the competitive displays, organised by the Educational and Cultural Activities Section, SVK Armed Forces Personnel Office, in cooperation with the Garrison Clubs and the Cultural and Educational Activities Centre, are firmly rooted in their own tradition, since they have been organised for the past 10 years already. 86 contestants from across units and facilities of the Slovak Armed Forces took part with 254 entries this year.

Col Ivan Sálaši said: “I am pleased that among the contestants are service personnel, ex-service pensioners, civilian employees and their family relatives. They represent the Armed Forces as a whole. The competitive displays have become an inseparable part of their lives. They demonstrate that culture and hobbies have an irreplaceable place in our Armed Forces.” Col Sálaši awarded the best contributors for their winning entries.

A total of 22 service personnel, 9 civilian employees, 24 family relatives, 25 members of Interest Groups from the Garrison Clubs and the Cultural and Educational Activities Centre, and 4 ex-service pensioners and 17 children took part in the competitive displays this year.

In PhotoAttack 2019, Sgt 1st Class Jozef Filický, Office of SVK Armed Forces Surgeon General, was the first prize winner in the Armed Forces through Camera Lens category, Lt Col Peter Sobek, SVK MOD Bratislava, came first in the Military History category, and first prize in the Open category went to Jaroslav Matejček, Trenčín Garrison Club.

Gallery MIL 2019’s Painting & Sculpture category saw Tibor Hladký, Trenčín Garrison Club, as its winner, Oľga Horňáková,  Trenčín Garrison Club, triumphed in the Applied Arts category, and 11-year-old Darina Repová, representing the Language Institute Liptovský Mikuláš, took first place in the Children’s Works category.

The Slovak Armed Forces Personnel Office Director’s Prize and the Cultural and Educational Activities Section Chief’s Prize went to 1Lt Dana Nováková, Tactical Wing Sliač, and Sgt 1st Class Miroslav Katuščák, Helicopter Wing Prešov, respectively. Col Sálaši awarded Maj Zdenko Baranec, SVK AF HQ Zvolen, Zdenko Zaťko, SVK Armed Forces Personnel Office Liptovský Mikuláš, and Július Kákoš, Master Photographer of the Slovak Photographers Union, for their long-term active contribution to promoting military upbringing and culture. He also presented commemorative plaques to Dr Imrich Purdek, Institute of Military History Bratislava, and Stanislav Martinák, Trenčín Garrison Club.
