Slovak soldiers in Iraq are safe, MOD receives regular situational updates

The Slovak soldiers serving in Iraq are safe and ready to evacuate in line with NATO’s decision to do so. Based on the current situation in Iraq after the death of Gen Qasem Soleimani, NATO has temporarily suspended its training activities and operational tasks on the ground. Further action will be taken by the North Atlantic Council on Monday (6 January).
“We are regularly updated on the latest developments. Of course, the security of our soldiers comes first,” emphasised Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš.
More detailed information cannot be provided due to security reasons. 7 Slovak Armed Forces members are currently deployed to Iraq. They have been involved in providing training and advice to Iraqi security forces at training facilities.
