Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš participated in the SVK Chief of Military Medical Services (MMS) Annual Meeting of Commanders in Ružomberok today (7 February 2020). On this occasion, he thanked service members for fulfilling their duties and tasks in 2019 and was keen to learn about the current tasks and priorities of defence medicine.
On improvement of defence medicine in the SVK Armed Forces, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “Military medical services have been neglected for years. The current MOD leadership is aware of this and has, therefore, taken a number of steps to contribute to improving the healthcare system for service personnel.” Minister Gajdoš cited last year’s deliveries of mobile medical laboratories, upgraded military ambulances, and the approval of the medical vehicles procurement programme as recent examples of the MOD’s efforts towards enhancing military medical capabilities.
Reflecting on medical education and training, he appreciated the joint training of SVK Armed Forces medical professionals and members of the SVK Integrated Rescue System as well as the study programme and training of future SVK medical professionals that are delivered in cooperation with the University of Brno in the Czech Republic.
