Armed Forces Academy receives 2.9 million in EU funding on refurbishment and modernisation of buildings

The M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš has received €2.9 million in non-repayable funding from the European Structural and Investment Funds. The financial resources will go towards refurbishing and modernising residential buildings in order to save energy during the buildings operation. With renewable energy, the buildings can thus save up to approx. 50% of energy.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "The aim of the approved projects is to bring down the energy consumption of buildings and improve the comfort of residents at the Armed Forces Academy. I am very pleased we can manage them through to completion also thanks to the financial resources from European Union funds, while at the same time saving the taxpayers' money." As he further explained, M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš has put forward 15 projects as proposals to be considered for funding under the "Quality of Environment" Operational Programme, whereas two projects have been approved to date.

The approved projects reckon with fitting thermal insulation to the exterior façade envelope and roof coatings, replacing building openings – doors and windows, and that of lighting systems, installing a new boiler room, and the refurbishment and upgrade of the heating system. As part of the projects, solar panels as a new ecological renewable energy source will be mounted onto the roofs of the buildings.
