Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď today spoke by phone with Czech Defence Minister Lubomír Metnar to introduce himself as the incumbent Minister of Defence of the Slovak Republic. On this occasion, they discussed ways of fostering the Defence engagement between the States and paid close attention to joint solutions on defence and security issues within the V4, EU and NATO. A dominant theme of the phone conversation was the developing COVID-19 situation.
In his call with Minister Metnar, Minister Naď presented the goals and priorities of the current MOD leadership. Both leaders also addressed individual steps the SVK and CZE MODs and Armed Forces have taken in response to the battle against COVID-19.
On reaching out to communities, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "These days, our core priority is combating the COVID-19 virus, which is evidenced by the permanent execution of tasks by our service personnel on the ground and in communities. In this respect, I appreciate the responsiveness and cooperation of the Czech Republic in repatriating SVK citizens to our country." As he further noted, the Slovak Republic remains ready to provide assistance to CZE citizens, whether that be assisting them with transits across Slovakia or with repatriations.
During the phone call, the two leaders also looked into ways how to further the bilateral engagement in the politico-military field. "The Defence cooperation between our countries has been at a high level in the long term and has brought palpable results, as with education and training activities for members of both armed forces, their participation in international exercises, so also with airspace protection," said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď, stressing that the intent of the senior MOD leadership is to continue deepening the CZE-SVK partnership in the said areas of common interest.
