Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and Secretary General of the Service Office of the SVK Ministry of Defence Peter Kozák today discussed options for supporting employment in the SVK defence industry with representatives of the National Union of Employers (NUE). It is unequivocally the SVK defence industry's potential that presents an opportunity for raising employment levels across Slovakia's individual regions and may thus contribute towards restarting economy.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "The National Union of Employers (NUE) is part of the highest tripartite body – the SVK Economic and Social Council. Its task is, among others, to keep improving the quality of the business environment. Therefore, today we had an excellent opportunity to discuss together the possibilities our SVK defence industry can offer and thus contribute to SVK employment and economic growth."
The meeting was dominated by themes related to Armed Forces modernisation. In this regard, the head of the MOD introduced the planned modernisation projects to the NUE representatives. "Our aim is to manage the projects through to completion with maximum transparency so that we get as much as we can for every single euro spent. That is why our priority is to proceed with these purchases as effectively and transparently as possible," said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď, stressing that SVK defence manufacturers will play a vital role in the modernisation programmes. In this way, the MOD seeks to use, to a maximum extent, the SVK defence industry's potential to unlock greater growth.
Last week the Defence Minister met with representatives of the SVK Security and Defence Industry Association. During the meeting, they discussed supporting the SVK defence industry, which MOD leaders consider to be a strategic interest of the State. As Mr Naď noted, if the conditions are set favourably and fairly, the SVK defence industry has something to offer even in the field of research and development.
Currently, the National Union of Employers (NUE) brings together about 1,300 companies with over 250,000 employees.
