State Secretary of SVK MOD discusses coordinating fight against hybrid threats

State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Marian Majer today met State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Martin Klus to discuss coordinating the fight against hybrid threats. The bilateral meeting took place in the margins of an informal meeting on hybrid threats, where representatives of both ministries and the NGO sector involved addressed the issue in their presentations. Opening remarks were delivered by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok who underscored the need to seek a coordinated approach in tackling hybrid challenges.

During the meeting of the State Secretaries, close attention was paid to current developments on defence and security, mainly on hybrid threats and the implications of spreading disinformation. The State Secretaries discussed further opportunities to develop the cooperation between the ministries in this sphere. "The security environment, in which Slovakia too finds itself, is changing with technological advances. Whether we speak about cyber threats and attacks or the influence of disinformation being spread in the online space, it is imperative that we react to them promptly and effectively," said State Secretary of the SVK MOD Marian Majer.

The MOD has made addressing hybrid threats one of its priorities. Therefore, the State Secretary confirmed the MOD's interest in deepening cooperation on counter-hybrid threat efforts among the MOD, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and central State administration bodies. "I am very pleased that partly thanks to mutual cooperation and regular meetings that await us, we will move this area of security, including the effective and targeted measures in the fight against hybrid threats, forward to a new level," added State Secretary Marian Majer.
