J. Naď: MOD leadership to approach modernisation of Sliač Air Base with responsibility and transparency

With each modernisation project, senior Ministry of Defence leaders are committed to acting with responsibility and maximum transparency to provide service personnel with the best Service condition they can. This announcement comes after the visit of Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď to Sliač Air Base.

After meeting Armed Forces specialists at the air base, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "The former government set aside €55 million in funding for the modernisation of Sliač Air Base, and all this with no implementation project whatsoever," adding that "I saw with my own eyes in what stage of "implementation" this project was. Therefore, I see this as a case of failed communication by the former MOD leadership and I will do everything to make sure the acting MOD leadership finds the best solution to the project, including to its financial aspects."

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď added: "In this regard, different lies have been created in the past. That is why I would like to stress that no way will this lead to establishing U.S. bases in our country. I will be very pleased if we succeed, as has been the case in the past, in getting funds from other sources than our taxpayers' money. This is especially true in this crisis situation."

Head of the MOD also paid a visit to the SVK Air Force Headquarters in Zvolen. While there, he acknowledged the work and commitment of all service members to combating the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was keen to learn about the SVK AF HQ's current requirements and what the MOD can do to contribute to driving the quality of "business as usual" practices upwards.
