Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď received the Ukrainian Ambassador to Slovakia, His Excellency Mr Yuri Mushka, at MOD Main Building today (19 May 2020), marking his first official meeting with the UKR Ambassador since taking office as Minister of Defence. They spoke about ways of deepening the bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defence and support for Ukraine's pro-European and pro-Atlantic orientation.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: ”In the Government Manifesto approved by the SVK Parliament we express unequivocal support for Ukraine, the maintenance of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its transformation into a democratic, stable, secure and prosperous country.“ According to his words, Slovakia is committed, actively and openly, to standing up in defence of values such as democracy, rule of law and international rules, including the protection of national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On bilateral cooperation, Minister Naď and Ambassador Mushka built on the recent talks between State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Marian Majer and Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration Anatoliy Petrenko. Head of the MOD expressed his support for further enhancement of the SVK-UKR defence and security relationship. “These days, all of our activities are still impacted by coronavirus. Yet, we are ready to step up cooperation as soon as the situation allows,” he said.
On the subject of COVID-19 operations, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď informed Ambassador Mushka of the developing COVID-19 situation and the role of the SVK Armed Forces in the fight against the spread of the pandemic. In doing so, he underpinned the importance of the Joint Operations Centre, which has made use of Armed Forces capabilities in rapid reaction to the requests for assistance from the Government and the Central Crisis Staff.
