Ministry of Defence leaders visit military units in Prešov

As part of their tour of military installations in Slovakia, the Ministry of Defence leaders want to get a real picture of the state and needs of military units. The aim is to pinpoint options and tasks thanks to which they can make the way they function more effective as well as better the Service conditions for active duty soldiers. That message was conveyed today by Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď who, joined by State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Marian Majer and Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko, visited military units in Prešov.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "We will not put off until tomorrow what we can do today. With this simple motto, I want to express my support to all regular service personnel. Because at this time when we are fully engaged in the battle against the pandemic, it might appear not enough attention is being paid to other issues. In fact, just the opposite is true. That is why I am very pleased that as part of our away days as we tour individual military installations, today we have visited soldiers in Prešov and become familiar with their opinions and needs." He assured service members that the MOD will do the absolute maximum to support them to work together better and more efficiently to accomplish everyday tasks.

While in Prešov, Minister Naď along with MOD and Armed Forces officials paid a visit to the Headquarters 2nd Mechanised Brigade, including ISTAR Battalion, and the Helicopter Wing. During the visit, he was appreciative of the work individual units are doing. "Members of the ISTAR Battalion are deployed, for example, to maintain public order, deliver security, and respond to a variety of crisis situations across our country. Airmen of the Helicopter Wing Prešov deserve recognition and respect too, because their capabilities are an inherent part of domestic crisis management, for instance, in fighting forest fires," he said. At the same time, he was thankful to them for maintaining a high standard of performance.

Also today, the head of the MOD visited Military Forests and Estates Kamenica nad Cirochou Branch.
