Minister Naď meets with Israeli Ambassador B. Modai

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to the Slovak Republic, His Excellency Mr Boaz Modai, at the Ministry of Defence today (3 June 2020). During the meeting, they mainly discussed ways to further cultivate and accelerate the politico-military cooperation between both countries, including supporting the SVK defence industry. On his visit to the MOD, Ambassador Modai was accompanied by the Israeli Defence Attaché to the Slovak Republic, Col Itai Brin.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "By developing and deepening the SVK-ISR relationship at the level of our MODs, we confirm that we have close positions even on such issues as security and defence, which, of course, is bringing us together and creating a space for intensifying our cooperation." On this occasion, the Minister expressed the interest of SVK Special Operations Forces (SOF) experts in the offer to visit and consider the use of Israeli training facilities for training the SVK SOF units in the coming years. As he added, it pleases him that the mutual cooperation on education and training has, in the long run, gone well over and above the standard scope of bilateral relations.

Minister Naď and Ambassador Modai discussed, among others, challenges in the modernisation of equipment and infrastructure within the Armed Forces. From the perspective of military equipment modernisation, the Minister stressed that the highest priority is now given to the procurement of 3D radar systems due to the technical condition of the serving radars and the urgent need to secure a comprehensive provision of SVK airspace defence. Another topic of today's discussion was the purchase of the SPIKE Anti-Tank Guided Missile System and the 5th-generation Spike LR2 Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs), which have been procured by the MOD through NATO's NSPA programme.
