Director General of the MOD’s Armaments Department – National Armaments Director Jozef Zekucia today handed over specialist medical equipment to representatives of hospitals from Bratislava, Martin, Ružomberok and Košice at the Electrotechnical Research and Projecting Company (EVPÚ) in Nová Dubnica. The inhalation devices, gifted to the MOD by the National Union of Employers, will help treat, inter alia, coronavirus patients.
Director General of the MOD’s Armaments Department – National Armaments Director Jozef Zekucia said: “The MOD has accepted this assistance from the National Union of Employers with pleasure and gratitude. Despite the fact we are having a break from coronavirus, the situation in the world indicates that Slovakia may still urgently need the devices in the battle against the pandemic.”
He also thanked for the thermal camera gifted to the MOD by the National Union of Employers earlier this May. “Our soldiers have shown their amazing determination and commitment during the pandemic. I am convinced that they will deal with the second wave of the pandemic just the same and that the thermal camera will enable them to help Slovakia with greater impact,” he said.
Presenting the details of the inhalation device, Prof Ján Slezák MD DrSc said: “This is a medical hydrogen/oxygen generator with a sprayer system which alleviates the effects of respiratory diseases. As a supplementary treatment, it is effective in treating chemotherapy patients. Moreover, it prevents insomnia and improves sleep quality. It can also be used for treating rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes. Because of this, we believe that the gifted technology will help us in a time of coronavirus and beyond.”
Among those who came to collect the inhalation devices and thank the MOD and the National Union of Employers were Col Ladislav Neubert MD from the Office of SVK Armed Forces Surgeon General Ružomberok, Prof Dušan Dobrota ME PhD and Ľubomír Pepucha MEng from the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine Martin, Stanislav Škorňa MEng from the University Hospital Martin, Assoc Prof Jozef Firment MD PhD from the Louis Pasteur University Hospital Košice, and Prof Ján Slezák MD DrSc from the Slovak Academy of Sciences Bratislava.
