State Secretary M. Majer pays his respects to SNP heroes at place where armed uprising broke out in High Tatras

On behalf of the Ministry of Defence, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Marian Majer took part today in the 25th International Military Ascent of Mt Kriváň in honour of the 76th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) in WW2. Representatives of the Armed Forces and former Chief of Defence Lt Gen Peter Vojtek joined him in paying tribute to the memory of the SNP fighters at the Fallen Partisans Memorial at Štrbské pleso in the High Tatras.

Reflecting on the military tradition of the annual Mt Kriváň climb, Defence State Secretary Marian Majer said: “I am very pleased to have participated in this year’s event. It has a long tradition in our armed forces, which contributes to building relations with the public, strengthening patriotism, reinforcing ties, and bringing together armed forces of the participating countries.”

As part of the SNP commemorative events, the State Secretary also paused to remember Captain in memoriam Štefan Morávka and Captain in memoriam Ján Rášo who made the ultimate sacrifice whilst fighting in the area of Štrbské pleso as part of the national liberation battles in WWII.
