Defence Minister J. Naď thanks SVK Armed Forces Guard of Honour and Band for representing our country at home and abroad

Today, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď visited Dukla Barracks in Bratislava, where he met with the commander and members of Headquarters Bratislava Garrison (HQ BA GAR). As part of his away day, he also paid a visit to Vajnory Barracks in Bratislava, where some performances from the “Great Show Programme”, aimed at presenting the Armed Forces at public events, were put on by the SVK Armed Forces Guard of Honour and the SVK Armed Forces Band.

His official programme then continued with a visit to members of the SVK Armed Forces Band, based in Dula Square, Bratislava. On this occasion, the head of the MOD said “Thank You” to military musicians for representing the SVK military in a brilliant way. He wanted to know what the MOD can do more to support their performances effectively.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Members of the public can meet the Slovak Armed Forces Guard of Honour and the Slovak Armed Forces Band at different events throughout the year. So, they are one of the most visible elements that represent our Armed Forces at public functions and ceremonies.”

The SVK Armed Forces Guard of Honour (GOH) serves for protocol and ceremonial duties to perform military honours for state and constitutional representatives of the Slovak Republic, dignitaries of other governments, the European Union and NATO, and top military leaders of the SVK Armed Forces in accordance with diplomatic protocol.

The head of the MOD praised the GOH’s public engagements for making a marked contribution to the positive presentation of the SVK Armed Forces both nationally and internationally, including at the international military tattoos in Poland, Italy, Romania, Latvia, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic.

The SVK Armed Forces Band is an organisational element of HQ BA GAR. Along with the Military Band Banská Bystrica, based at the Tactical Wing Sliač, it is tasked with supporting military ceremonies and parades, commemorative ceremonies, military funerals, and other ceremonial events and official engagements across Defence and in public places, whether inside or outside the country.
