The Training Center Lešť currently hosts the training of soldiers listed in the Active Reserve. 43 participants from the Engineer Battalion based in Sereď will finish training tomorrow. Yesterday they were joined by 16 reservists from the CBRN Battalion in Rožňava, who will later move to the Training and Testing Center in Zemianske Kostoľany and finish training on 2 October 2020.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “We are currently drafting an amendment the aim of which is to improve the Active Reserve Project both in quality and attractiveness. It is one of the priorities of the SVK MOD and our objective is to open the project for as much citizens, who are liable for compulsory service and are interested in joining the Active Reserve, as possible. I believe the novelties we are preparing will attract all who would like to perform tasks related to the defence of the Slovak Republic.” He also explained that the SVK Armed Forces plan to train a total of 330 soldiers listed in the Active Reserve next year.
Maj Rastislav Dubovecký, Deputy Commander of the Engineer Battalion, explained: “The aim of training is to improve working skills for selected positions, in particular pontoon company specialties. I am very pleased with their approach. All of them want to succeed. We have been training the Active Reserve for four years. Some of the reservists participate in training every year, some joined later, and some are newcomers. They have made a good and well-coordinated team; those with more skills and experience are helping the recruits.” The 5th year students of the Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš participated for the first time.
Training of the Active Reserve soldiers from the 21st Combined Mechanized Battalion in Trebišov is scheduled from 28 September to 8 October 2020 and from the 5th Special Purpose Regiment from 15 to 29 October 2020.
Provided they complete at least 75 per cent of the training, members of the Active Reserve get a yearly incentive contribution in the amount of EUR 600. In compliance with the applicable law, according to the length of training, they also have the right to a proportional part of rank salary. In addition, the MOD will reimburse employers for wage costs during the absence of their employees, compensate self-employed persons participating in training for their loss of profit, and provide reimbursement for health and social insurance contributions.
