Minister Naď meets Canadian Ambassador H. A. Hulan for talks on enhancing security and defence cooperation

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď met the Ambassador of Canada to Slovakia and Austria, Her Excellency Ms Heidi Alberta Hulan at the Ministry of Defence today (1 October 2020). On this occasion, Ambassador Hulan introduced herself in the role of Ambassador of Canada. During their first meeting, they looked at ways to enhance mutual cooperation in the politico-military field and concurred that the common Euro-Atlantic values create an excellent space for deepening and intensifying this cooperation.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď: “When it comes to relations with our Euro-Atlantic partners, the fundamental factor is not the geographical distance, but the values, views and the scope of cooperation through which we can make a contribution to joint solutions to security issues and challenges.”

Ambassador Hulan expressed her appreciation for the Slovak contribution to NATO in the Baltics, where currently 152 members of the Slovak Armed Forces are performing their duties. “At the moment, Slovak troops are deployed to Latvia, where, under the leadership of Canada, they are carrying out tasks alongside their fellow colleagues as part of enhanced Forward Presence,” added Minister Naď.

As well as presenting the MOD’s priorities and goals, the Defence Minister informed the Canadian Ambassador about work underway on strategic documents to reflect the current challenges of the changing security landscape.
