On Saturday 7 November 2020, out of 1,297,571 residents who came forward for testing with the use of antigen tests, 8,172 tested positive for coronavirus. The latest test results of Day 1 of Slovakia’s second round of country-wide testing in 45 “red” high risk and “green” districts were announced today by Prime Minister Igor Matovič and Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “We are entering the finale of our country-wide testing for coronavirus. Yesterday’s overall turnout figures and the falling numbers of positive cases brought a big smile to my face. I confirm that Slovakia is capable of standing united in these important moments and for a good cause. A decline in positive cases and hence a lower infection risk to those vulnerable in our society are a good reason for satisfaction. Once again I am hugely grateful to all those taking part in this initiative.” The Minister went on to inform that the Slovak Armed Forces have opened a total of 2,670 test sites today, equating to 99.96% of the planned sites. Those interested are invited to come forward for testing until 20:00 on Sunday as well.
The number of open sites is being affected by a theft of antigen tests from the test site at the nursery school in the Medvedzie housing estate in the town of Tvrdošín. For this reason, the test site will remain closed for the rest of the day. According to available information, the culprit forced entry into the warehouse by braking the rear door to the warehouse open. A total of 750 antigen tests, 20 overalls, 30 respirators, 350 gloves, 13 face masks and a lot of hand sanitisers were stolen. No COVID-19 test certificates were missing, since these were stored safely in another room. The case is being investigated by the Police Department in Tvrdošín. “I hope the culprit will be found and brought to justice. Since we are in a state of emergency, the punishment will be much harsher,” said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď.
