Central Crisis Management Staff approves fourth round of testing to be rolled out to 458 municipalities on voluntary basis

The Central Crisis Management Staff has today approved the fourth round of mass population testing for the presence of COVID-19 as part of Op Shared Responsibility. Testing is set to take place this coming weekend in 458 municipalities where the number of positive tests was over 1% in the last testing round. The complete results of the second and third testing rounds in municipalities are available at https://mab.to/3qzCCwfm3. The fourth round of testing will be voluntary and will take place from 08:00 to 20:00 on 21-22 November 2020.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Although testing will be done on a voluntary basis and no restrictions will be applied to those not participating, I hope residents will come forward with the same sense of responsibility as they showed in the previous rounds of testing. This is about the health of us all and of our close ones. Generally speaking, apart from a decrease in positive tests, thanks to detailed results, it is possible to precisely identify the emerging coronavirus hotspots which need a helping hand in containing the pandemic through the fourth round of testing.”

Among the potential local hotspots are Valaská Dubová in Ružomberok district where positive cases rose from 1.16% to 5.16% in the second and third rounds of testing and Jurkova Voľa in Svidník district where positive cases went up from 0% to 4.08% in the second and third rounds of testing. Statistically, the third round of testing saw Markovce in Michalovce district reporting the highest positivity rates (6.04%).

The MOD estimates that the total sum for the roll-out of the three rounds of mass testing for the presence of COVID-19 as part of Op Shared Responsibility is at round €30m. However, the costs of the Ministry of Interior and local authorities are not included in this figure. Based on the documentation from all parties involved, the overall bill for Op Shared Responsibility will be worked out by the Ministry of Finance.
