UK Government gives grant to SVK MOD to buy material to assist SVK military and people with their response to COVID-19 pandemic

The UK Government will give a grant of €31,300 to the SVK Ministry of Defence to buy germicide ionisers to assist the SVK military and people with their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This follows from the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic, which was signed today by Andrew Wells, Deputy Head of Mission to Slovakia, and Martin Sklenár, Director General of the MOD’s Defence Policy Department.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď thanked for the UK’s offer and appreciated the very good relationship between both countries, the outcome of which is this concrete collaboration to the benefit of SVK citizens. “A friend in need is a friend indeed – I want to thank the UK Government for the offer and grant to buy medical material and technical equipment. This is not just an important gesture of assistance and solidarity, but also a confirmation of exemplary and above-average bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Also, this is a declaration of a clear position – Allied partners support and help each other in crisis situations,” said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď, adding that Slovakia will use the grant for the purposes of domestic crisis management operations. The offer is an initiative of the United Kingdom.
Director General of the MOD’s Defence Policy Department Martin Sklenár said: “It is important that we can rely on our Allies in difficult times like these. The COVID-19 pandemic continuously shows how important cooperation and mutual assistance are. The Ministry of Defence is truly appreciative of this offer. I believe the germicide ionisers will serve their purpose as best as they possible can.”
The purchase will be made by the British side via the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Subsequently, the gift will be presented to the SVK Ministry of Defence. The germicide ionisers will be used to assist the people of Slovakia in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
