Defence Minister Naď and President Čaputová extend season’s greetings to SVK soldiers serving on missions and operations abroad over this festive period

Speaking via a video link today as Christmas edges closer, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and President and Commander-in-Chief of the SVK Armed Forces Zuzana Čaputová said “Thank You” to SVK servicemen and women who will be serving over this Christmas period on missions and operations in Afghanistan, Latvia, Cyprus and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among others, they asked them how they were going to spend this festive period when off duty.

Thanks to the deployments of SVK troops alongside our Allies, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď highlighted that Slovakia is a fully fledged element in building security in the world. “For this, I extend my sincere Thank You to them, this is all the more so in the run-up to Christmas when everyone wants to spend Christmas in the circle of their close ones. Nevertheless, I know that one who serves the country gains a second family – these are the people who can rely on each other even in the most critical situations and under all circumstances,” he said.

Speaking with the commanders of individual SVK contingents, President and Commander-in-Chief of the SVK Armed Forces Zuzana Čaputová extended her season’s greetings to all SVK soldiers serving abroad. “I am proud of them and I highly commend the work they are doing. Hardly anyone at home in Slovakia realises that we can have a peaceful and worry-free Christmas largely thanks to them – our soldiers who are far away from their homes, from their loved ones and who cannot enjoy a worry-free Christmas,” she emphasised.

During the video call, the SVK MOD and Armed Forces leaders were briefed on the latest developments abroad and the state of the SVK contingents by Lt Col Radko Škára of NATO’s non-combat Resolute Support Mission (RSM) in Afghanistan, Maj Michal Németh of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) in Latvia, Lt Col Ján Hric of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) and Lt Col Michal Rázga of Op EUFOR Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Currently, there are 442 SVK service personnel deployed on international crisis management missions and operations abroad.
