Akhsarbek Gulaev (SVK) of DUKLA Military Sports Centre is the world's No. 1 freestyle wrestler in his category

After earning the gold medal at the European Wrestling Championships earlier this April in Warsaw, Akhsarbek Gulaev, freestyle wrestler of the DUKLA Military Sports Centre Banská Bystrica, claimed another huge success for the Military Sports Centre and Slovakia. On Tue 8 June 2021, Akhsarbek won the men's freestyle wrestling title at 79kg at the 2021 Poland Open event and is the world's No. 1 freestyle wrestler in his category.
    
Director of the DUKLA Military Sports Centre Banská Bystrica Roman Benčík said: “We are immensely pleased that our wrestlers continue to put in top performances even after the European Wrestling Championships. Akhsarbek is a nice example, given that he has succeeded in winning the international tournament that catapulted him to the world No. 1 ranking. We fully support our guys in delivering valuable performances on the world's scene.”
    
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “I always sincerely root for our DUKLA sportsmen and women and I am happy about their remarkable record of achievements. This is especially true when they place in the top positions. Today, I extend my sincere congratulations to Akhsarbek and I believe he and his fellow representatives will go for world titles also thanks to the high quality training condition that we support by making investments in the Military Sports Centre.”
    
23-year-old Akhsarbek Gulaev is a Slovak naturalised freestyle wrestler of the DUKLA Military Sports Centre Banská Bystrica. Being a native of North Ossetia, he came to Slovakia in 2016 and has represented Slovakia ever since 2017.
