Office of Military Aviation becomes NATO recognised National Military Airworthiness Authority

The NATO International Staff (IS) has authorised the Slovak Military Aviation Authority – the Office of Military Aviation of the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic – as a National Military Airworthiness Authority to issue and review the certificates of airworthiness for military aircraft designated as “State aircraft”. Slovakia is the 16th NATO member country to have succeeded in getting the NATO Certificate of the Military Airworthiness Authority.

This new responsibility of the Office of Military Aviation comes as the outcome of the NATO IS's assessment of the Office's compliance with the NATO Airworthiness Policy, the Allied rules for the airworthiness certification of State aircraft.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “It follows from the NATO audit and Assessment Report that the SVK Air Force aircraft, whose operation is authorised by the Office of Military Aviation in line with applicable legislation, meet the highest flight safety standards and are safe for performance of NATO tasks. This is a truly great success for the SVK MOD's Office of Military Aviation.”

The Office of Military Aviation, SVK MOD, received the NATO Certificate of the Military Airworthiness Authority from the NATO International Staff at the meeting of the NATO Aviation Committee (AVC) on 28 June 2021.
