Refurbishment works to Sliač Air Base to be implemented via ICB through NATO NSPA

Refurbishment works to Sliač Air Base are essential to prepare it as the main operating base for the new F-16 Block 70 fighter jets. The Ministry of Defence leaders have made a decision to put the F-16 beddown construction out to international competitive bidding (ICB) via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). This gives Slovak design and construction companies an opportunity to participate in an international procurement process.

On the ICB procedure, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď explained: “Implementing the refurbishment works in this way is a guarantee of transparency and compliance with the rules of international competitive bidding. Our goal is to avoid any doubts [over the procedure], and given that the Agency operates on a non-profit basis, I believe this is the way to deny any such intentions. Importantly, this does not rule out the participation of SVK companies in the procurement process and them making profit from SVK investments.”

Through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), the SVK MOD is implementing a number of infrastructure projects at Sliač Air Base. All bid openings and awards are published on the NSPA website. Slovak companies, too, are invited to participate in the ICB. To do so, they must register as vendors with the NSPA Source File database. Timely Source File registration is necessary to be invited for the potential bid and to be considered for award.

Sliač Air Base's solicitation for Architect & Engineering services to complete onsite surveys and develop a conceptual & technical design for the F-16 beddown is listed as part of the Future Business Opportunities (FBO) on the NSPA website at Elektronické obstarávanie.
