The Military History Museum Piešťany, which falls under the remit of the Ministry of Defence, is taking forward the protection of the Museum's collection objects and the improvements to the exhibition spaces. Three exhibition halls, which house large and small museum objects documenting the military history of Slovakia, have been refurbished with the funding from the Ministry of Defence.
Director of the Institute of Military History (VHÚ) Col Miloslav Čaplovič said: “The Institute of Military History is supported financially by the Ministry of Defence as never before. We have a lot of projects ahead of us in order to bring parts of our history closer to the public in a captivating manner."
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “The history which forms our present has an important place in Defence and we value it extremely. That is why we approach it adequately, both morally and financially. The 2021 VHÚ budget was increased by €774,565 against last year, which accounts for a 25 per cent rise.”
Refurbishment works to the buildings included exchanging the windows, repairing and painting the façades, plastering internal walls, and painting the gates, bars and pipelines, as well as repairing electrical installations. Today, the Institute of Military History is implementing a number of investment projects and routine maintenance works to the facilities under its remit. One of the current investment projects is the building of a modern exhibition hall for large museum objects. Once complete, the public will be able to familiarise themselves with museum objects and their stories in a captivating manner since 1945 until recently.
The permanent exhibition galleries of the Military History Museum Piešťany are currently housing two exhibitions titled “Czechoslovak Army in 1945 - 1992” and “Slovak soldiers in uniforms 1848 - 2020”.
