Defence Minister Naď meets with senior managers and employees of Slovak National Uprising Museum

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď met with the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) Museum's senior managers and staff to discuss his vision for the Museum's operations, ensuring that it operates in a cost effective and transparent way once formal approval from the SVK Government to transfer the Museum from the remit of the Ministry of Culture to the remit of the Ministry of Defence has been received. Mr Naď confirmed that the MOD has ambitious plans to develop and support the Museum moving forward.

Speaking after the meeting, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “I met with the Museum's employees to sincerely reassure them in person about our intentions. After all that has been said and written about the Museum's transfer to the remit of the Ministry of Defence, I requested a meeting with all those most concerned as a matter of priority. I reassured the employees that we do not wish to understaff, impose limits to, or dispose of the Museum in any way whatsoever. On the contrary, we are seeking to provide it with better conditions, dignity and support. This is also true of the Museum's employees whose work I sincerely respect.” He made it clear that the Museum's legal status will be preserved even on the transfer of authority over the Museum to the MOD.

Minister Naď appreciated the employees' suggestions and comments. They were interested in ways to secure supplies and services to the Museum, its cooperation with the Institute of Military History and the Education Centre, the SNP national commemorations, and the Holocaust.

Mr Naď reminded that the MOD will act on the outcomes of the Museum's property inventory and legal and financial audits which are being undertaken by specialist inspection and auditing teams to improve the Museum's operations. “It was a very productive debate. I am sure that we all are taking away useful information and that you feel reassured about our intensions with the Museum,” concluded Mr Naď.

The proposal for the transfer of authority over the SNP Museum to the Ministry of Defence still needs formal approval from Parliament.
