Attic fire at Central Military Hospital is under control, patients have been evacuated according to site evacuation plan

A fire is reported to have broken out in the attic of the Surgery Pavilion at the Central Military Hospital - Faculty Hospital Ružomberok at 07:30am on Sunday 17 October 2021. The fire was extinguished promptly. The cause of the fire was ascertained as accidental due to an electrical short circuit. Two hours later, however, the attic burst into flames once again.

Responding to the fire alarm, the hospital began to evacuate patients immediately according to the site evacuation plan in coordination with local healthcare facilities. Neither patients nor staff are in danger. All of them are safe.

Firefighters of the Fire and Rescue Service Žilina are still on the ground at the site, and so are Military Police personnel.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď took immediate interest in the fire incident and the status of patients and hospital staff.
