Deputy Defence Minister Majer made an official trip to the Kingdom of Spain where he held a series of meetings on defence and security cooperation, received a tour of the International Defence and Security Exhibition FEINDEF 2021 in Madrid, and visited the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre in Torrejón.
After attending the FEINDEF opening ceremony and touring the exhibition, which hosted 300 exhibitors and 60 delegations from all over the world, Deputy Defence Minister Majer held a series of bilateral meetings. First, Mr Majer met with his Spanish counterpart, Secretary of State for Defence Esperanza Casteleiro Llamazares. He summarised the meeting as follows: “The meeting provided the space for reviving the bilateral defence relationship between Slovakia and Spain. I spoke with the Secretary of State for Defence about the current priorities of our Ministry of Defence, international crisis management operations in Africa, and NATO and EU affairs where our countries share similar values and positions.”
As part of his official programme at FEINDEF, Mr Majer also met with the Deputy Director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency Jed Royal for talks on the F-16 tactical multirole fighter jets and UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters for Slovakia. He noted that these projects demonstrate that the United States is a key partner for Slovakia in modernising the Slovak Armed Forces.
Mr Majer also had a meeting with Director of the Czech MOD's Industrial Cooperation Department Radka Konderlová and viewed the Czech Exhibition Stand.
While in Spain, he also received a tour of the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC), located at Torrejón Air Base. He took a keen interest in the CAOC's mission to plan, direct, coordinate, monitor, analyse and report on operations in the unit's area of responsibility within European NATO airspace south of the Alps.
