Live Christmas trees from Military Forests and Estates, a state-owned and MOD-run forestry company, will bring joy and add to the Christmas festivities at over 100 Centres for Children and Families across Slovakia. It is a tradition as part of which this year Military Forests and Estates is also distributing packages of premium quality wild game meat to the children's homes.
Among the first to receive the presents from Director of Military Forests and Estates Ján Jurica were the centres in Bratislava. When asked about the initiative, Mr Jurica said: “I am very pleased that this year too we can help children's homes across Slovakia. For them, we have prepared 156 Christmas trees and 105 small packages of wild game meat from our military woodlands. Thanks to this, we hope to make Christmas a special time for kids in children's homes.”
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “This idea originated from one of my visits to MOD woodlands when we cleared the plants hindering the growth of young tree cover. I am very excited at the prospect of children and families experiencing the joy of having these beautiful and fragrant trees during what are the most special festivities of the year.“
The donated Christmas trees and premium quality wild game meat come from the woodlands managed by Military Forests and Estates on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. The company's employees are going to deliver the presents straight to the doors of the centres in the days to come.
