The Ministry of Defence wants to recognise last year's extraordinary acts of the men and women across Defence, who, displaying humane character and sending out a strong moral message, often perform over and above the standard expected of their role. The MOD has therefore announced the 25th Military Deed of the Year Awards.
The nominations for the 2021 Military Deed of the Year Awards, made by those in Defence and members of the public, are to be submitted via email to cinroka@mod.gov.sk or regular mail to the MOD Marketing Section (Subject: 2021 Military Deed of the Year Awards; Official address: Oddelenie marketingu MO SR, Kutuzovova 8, 832 47 Bratislava) no later than 28 February 2022.
Of the Military Deed of the Year Awards, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Within Defence and outside, there are a lot of modest heroes whose deeds remain hidden. It is praiseworthy that they give assistance and support without asking for any reward or recognition, which is why people should know about them. They stand out as role models.” Mr Naď went on to remind that, besides servicemen and women, the MOD will also honour the actions of the people from outside Defence who promote the good name and legacy of the Slovak Armed Forces and military history.
The awards fall into four categories, namely: Rescue of Life, Assistance to the Public, A Friend of the Armed Forces, and Service to the Country. The awards nominations panel will shortlist the three best nominations in each category. Winners of individual categories will then be decided by a panel of judges made up of most senior MOD leaders, led by President Zuzana Čaputová as Commander-in-Chief of the Slovak Armed Forces.
