UKRAINE:
- Ukraine has been defending itself against Russian attacks for the fifth day. Yesterday Vladimir Putin ordered his military to put Russia's nuclear deterrence forces on high alert.
- Ukraine has agreed to hold peace talks with Russia at the Ukraine-Belarus border. The meeting is scheduled to take place still today. According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Kyiv will not bow down before Russia or its invasion at the talks.
- The EU has registered over 300,000 Ukrainian refugees.
- The Rating Group Ukraine, a sociological NGO, conducted an opinion survey. Over 90% of Ukrainian respondents support President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
- The Ukrainian Armed Forces have reported fending off Russian attacks on Kyiv and they have the situation in the city under control.
- A curfew for residents of Kyiv ended at 8.00am.
- Fighting in Ukraine continued on Sunday night, a five-kilometre Russian convoy heading towards Kyiv was also reported.
WORLD:
- On Ukraine's accession to the EU, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said: “They are one of us and we want them in."
- On Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Brazilian far-right President Jair Bolsonaro said yesterday Brazil would remain "neutral".
- Australia has imposed targeted sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and leading members of the Russian Government.
- The European Union has announced further measures against Russia, including the closure of EU airspace for Russian aircraft. The measures will also affect the Belarusian regime. In addition, the EU will finance arms supplies to Ukraine.
- Russia's national airline Aeroflot has temporarily suspended its flights from Moscow and St. Petersburg to several European destinations.
- The Russian rouble has fallen to a record low on Monday after the West announced another wave of sanctions against Russia.
- The UN Security Council is to hold an emergency session on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
SLOVAKIA:
- More than 31,000 Ukrainian citizens have already crossed into Slovakia.
- Slovakia is to provide Ukraine with air defence systems and anti-tank missiles worth €4.5mil.
- From today onwards, the first refugee hotspot camps are to be available for refugees on the border with Ukraine, namely in the municipalities of Vyšné Nemecké, Ubli and Ulič. Another one is to be added at the Veľké Slemence border crossing. The camps will be available around the clock.
- The SVK Ministry of Transport has launched a Help for Ukraine website at pomocpreukrajinu.sk, to assist Ukrainians with accommodation.
