Deputy Defence Minister Majer: The fundamental change in the security environment calls for a clear formulation of our stands even on security sector reform

Meeting at MOD Main Building today (25 April 2022), Deputy Defence Minister Majer received a delegation from the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) led by DCAF Director Ambassador Thomas Guerber. Central themes of the meeting included mutual cooperation on enhancing security sector governance and reform (SSG/R) – particularly in the context of Russia's belligerence in Ukraine.

Deputy Defence Minister Majer said: “The fundamental change in the security landscape that has transpired as a consequence of the war in Ukraine calls for a clear formulation of our stands even on security sector reform. This theme is highly relevant in the international context, especially as an important part of peacebuilding and peace sustainment issues."

Also thanks to cooperating with DCAF, Slovakia, as an active supporter of effective multilateralism, has become an internationally recognised partner in the field of security sector governance and reform, Mr Majer added.

From 2000 onwards, DCAF has overseen and shaped security sector reform (SSR) policies and programming worldwide. With its programmes running in over 80 countries, DCAF is recognised as a leading centre of excellence in the field of security sector reform and good governance. Since the Centre's establishment in 2000, Slovakia has been a member of DCAF's Foundation Council. Slovakia's cooperation with DCAF has gained on intensity since the Slovak Republic's membership on the UN Security Council in 2006.
