State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Marian Majer and Parliamentary State Secretary of the DEU Federal Ministry of Defence Siemtje Möller held a bilateral meeting at the Training Centre Lešť today (12 August 2022). As part of her working trip to Slovakia, Parliamentary State Secretary Siemtje Möller met with DEU military personnel serving in the NATO Multinational Battlegroup Slovakia (NATO MN BG SVK).
Speaking on the occasion, Marian Majer said: “The robust integrity and strength of the Allied bond is being demonstrated in the current security situation, whether through our joint strengthening of the Allianceʼs eastern border or unity of decisions and support for Ukraine. This is also evidenced by the presence of Allied troops in Slovakia who are boosting the defence capability of our country, mutual coordination and hence the important effect of deterrence.” He went on to highlight the high level and scope of SVK-DEU bilateral cooperation, adding: “Germany is an important ally on defence and security for us and we highly value its assistance in securing the defences of our country.”
While taking a tour of the Training Centre's premises, where the Allied troops are stationed, Mr Majer updated Ms Möller on improvements in the Host Nation Support (HNS), including on setting up a modular container camp at the TC Lešť.
Currently, over 470 DEU service personnel are deployed to Slovakia. The Bundeswehr is contributing with a Boxer AFV-equipped Mechanised Company and two Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC3) air defence systems to the NATO MN BG SVK's Land (L) and Air and Missile Defence (AMD) components, respectively. The DEU Contingent is led by a German AF Colonel.
