Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and the Defence Magazine editorial board have launched the 18th MOD Literary Competition open to secondary school, college and university goers, putting “INTERNET BATTLEFIELD” in the spotlight as this year's theme. The deadline for sending competitive entries – short stories and essays in the Slovak language is 20 November 2022.
Addressing the theme, Jaroslav Naď said: “For this generation of young people, the internet is just literally their very own natural living space, so they can find plenty of inspiration for ideas even in everyday situations they encounter in the online world. I guess there will be no shortage of diverse views on this theme, which this time ties in with the threats and risks out there in cyberspace.”
The submissions must be in between 1,000 and 5,000 letters in length (including spaces), the texts must be typed and submitted as DOC, DOCX, ODT or PDF documents. Entries should be forwarded to www.mosr.sk/sutaz-2022/.
The MOD panel of judges, comprised of service personnel and MOD civil servants, will select five best entries in each category. The competition will culminate in a finale with the best entries published on the MOD's Facebook (www.facebook.com/mosr.sk) for an online vote to be held on 28 November - 4 December 2022. The public will decide the winning entries through Facebook “likes”.
The first three winners of each category will receive, among others, gifts and cash prizes. First prize wins €500, second prize €400, and third prize €300. The winning entries will be published in the MOD's Defence Magazine. The organizers will officially announce the results of the 18th MOD Literary Competition on 5 December 2022.
