Minister Naď: I consider Slovenia's contribution to NATO's multinational battlegroup in Slovakia to be a valuable input into joint Allied efforts

Meeting together at MOD Main Building in Bratislava today, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď hosted His Excellency Dr Stanislav Raščan, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Slovakia, for a discussion to outline their appraisal of the current political and security situation in Central Europe and to discuss Slovak-Slovenian defence cooperation.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “The SVN service personnelʼs participation in the NATO Multinational Battlegroup Slovakia brings truly strong and positive momentum both to our bilateral defence engagement and international cooperation within the Alliance. Slovenia is a reliable, resolute and sincere ally and friend to us. Its contribution to NATOʼs battlegroup in Slovakia is a clear mark of Allied solidarity and attests to the quality of bilateral relations shared between our countries.”

As Defence Minister Naď reminded, some 100 service personnel currently make up the Slovenian Contingent (SVNCON) deployed to the Training Centre (TC) Lešť as part of the allied enhanced Vigilance Activities (eVA) in Slovakia. A Slovenian Mechanised Squadron forms part of the NATO Multinational Battlegroup Slovakia.

During the meeting, Minister Naď and Ambassador Raščan reviewed defence cooperation between Slovakia and Slovenia. This is exemplified by SVK and SVN service personnel working side by side on international crisis management operations abroad. There is also a successful programme of SVK-SVN training and education activities.

On possible future avenues of cooperation, the two see a potential for more intense engagement in the sphere of defence industries and in countering hybrid threats, which, thanks to exchange of information in the interests of enhancing Defence's responsiveness, may well turn out to be beneficial to both sides.
