New ambulances delivered to the Defence Medical Service (DMS)

As part of the process of replacing its outdated fleets of service vehicles, the Defence Medical Service (DMS) has received delivery of new non-combat Ambulance Service vehicles. Modernising military equipment is a step ahead to provide an enhanced patient transport service (PTS) to sick, injured and wounded patients.

On the new DMS ambulances, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Military medical professionals, just as the rest of the Armed Forces, need to modernise their fleets of vehicles and medical systems as these are essential to the smooth running of medical services across the Slovak Armed Forces and saving the lives of military and civilian personnel. That is why I am pleased we have been successful in improving the conditions of their work, which itself is irreplaceable indeed.“

The vehicles, built on the Volkswagen Crafter L3H2 chassis, are specially modified to transport patients – they are equipped with multi-position adjustable stretcher trolleys with removable tops, fixed passenger seats with safety belts, and other equipment needed for ambulance services.

The contract for Defence Medical Service (DMS) ambulances was put out to tender in 2021 and resulted in the signing of a framework contract for 25 vehicles of this type.
