Colonel Karel Navrátil (CZE A) takes over from Col Ladislav Bujárek (CZE A) as COM NATO MN BG SVK

A planned rotation of the Czech Contingent (CZECON) in the NATO Multinational Battlegroup Slovakia (NATO MN BG SVK) took place at the Training Centre Lešť earlier this week, with Col Karel Navrátil (CZE A) taking over from Col Ladislav Bujárek (CZE ), who has served as COM NATO MN BG SVK since the end of June.
Speaking at the Change of Command (COC) ceremony, COM NATO MN BG SVK Col Karel Navrátil said: “I know that you would like to spend the festive period with your close ones, but the security situation on NATOʼs eastern flank does not allow it. We, the soldiers of the North Atlantic Alliance, are here to fulfil our duties and we must be ready to defend our common European territory as long as necessary.”
At the COC ceremony, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď presented the Slovak Minister of Defence Medal to Col Ladislav Bujárek for his commendable work. In his farewell speech, Col Ladislav Bujárek thanked the entire Battlegroup for a job well done.
Also in attendance at the ceremony was DCOM SVK ARMY Brig Gen Ivan Balog. In his speech, Brig Gen Balog thanked those present from the 1st rotation of the NATO MN BG SVK for their service in Slovakia.
Soldiers from the 1st rotation of CZE troops in Slovakia, formed of a Mechanised Troop from 41 Mechanised Squadron Žatec, have now been replaced by their fellow colleagues from 42 Mechanised Squadron Tábor.
The Czech-led NATO Multinational Battlegroup Slovakia, also known as the NATO enhanced Vigilance Activity (eVA) Battlegroup Slovakia, brings together NATO-member militaries from Czechia, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the USA.
