Soldiers to mark the 17th anniversary of the Slovak Air Force Antonov AN-24 crash on 18 Jan with a March of Honour to Borsó Hill overlooking the Hungarian village of Hejce

Members of the Slovak Army's units and facilities, led by Commander of the Slovak Army Maj Gen Ivan Pach, will pay tribute to their colleagues who lost their lives in the line of duty with a traditional March of Honour from the Hungarian village of Hejce to the site on Borsó Hill where the worst tragedy in the contemporary history of the Slovak Armed Forces took place.

The March of Honour commences at 09.00 CET on Wednesday 18 January 2023. Once on top of Borsó Hill, soldiers will take a moment to pause, remember and light up candles for the 42 fellow colleagues who died while returning home from KFOR on 19 January 2006.

In the afternoon, Bishop of the Forces and Armed Corps Mons František Rábek will celebrate a Holy Mass for the victims in the local church in Hejce.

Elsewhere at the MOD in Bratislava, a silent wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Reconciliation Memorial on Thursday 19 January 2023. A press release along with photos will be forwarded to media outlets.
