Ministry of Defence must challenge the reports by foreign media on Slovakia's main battle tanks

According to German media outlets, “Slovakia may be willing to give up its Leopard 2 tanks which it is to get from Germany to help Ukraine.” This statement is not true, nor have the allies asked Slovakia to do so.
Speaking shortly after the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) meeting at Ramstein AB today (Friday 20 January 2023), State Secretary Marian Majer said: “During todayʼs discussions at Ramstein, there wasnʼt any official request either from Germany for our Leopard tanks, so to say, to be passed on to Ukraine.”
The MOD also denies that the United States has pledged to provide us with a replacement for the tanks in the form of older U.S. Army Abrams MBTs, should we transfer the German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
For the above reasons, we kindly ask all media outlets to be careful with their statements, especially when it comes to defence and security, because any speculation may lead to information chaos.
