By refurbishing and repairing the accommodation facilities under the MOD Accommodation Agency (BARMO)'s remit, the MOD works to raise accommodation standards for military and civilian personnel. One of such facilities is the hostel in SNP Heroes Street in Martin. Last year, the MOD spent over €750,000 to upgrade the hostel.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Gradually, we are catching up on the investment debt from the past. Thanks to this, the long-neglected premises are being turned into modern and attractive accommodation facilities. I wish to thank BARMO’s leadership and all those involved with sincere interest in providing for dignified living conditions in the accommodation facilities, while their residents have temporarily found other places to stay."
Last year, the Martin-based hostel saw repairs to the building's façade, ceilings, and perimeter fence. Also, as part of the project, electrical wiring and fittings were fixed and the interior doors were replaced by new ones with automatic closing and locking.
In 2022, the MOD spent €1,085,120 on the upgrades to its accommodation facilities and €346,718 on the repairs of its flats under BARMO's remit, Minister Naď added. Whilst the buildings in Bratislava and Martin have already been upgraded, the one in Trenčín is now being refurbished, and the refurbishment of that in Žilina is due to start still this year.
BARMO manages large capacity accommodation facilities in Bratislava, Martin, Trenčín and Žilina and takes care of 370 separate flats.
