During today's promotion ceremony at the Grassalkovich Palace in Bratislava, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Slovak Armed Forces Zuzana Čaputová has handed the Certificate of Promotion over to six Slovak Armed Forces service members, in the presence of Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko.
Under the Slovak Armed Forces' Internal Organisation and Support Plan, Col Marek Banas, Col Jaroslav Krám, Col Jozef Ševčík and Col Róbert Kecső have been promoted to the most junior general officer rank of Brigadier General; whilst Brig Gen Róbert Kleštinec (Director of Military Intelligence) and Brig Gen Martin Michalko (Commander of Joint Operations Command) have been promoted to the rank of Major General.
Speaking on the occasion, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Receiving the first general’s star as much as every other general’s star is a sign of recognition for those building and developing the Slovak Armed Forces. At the same time, it is an unwavering commitment of your next dedicated and determined service to this country. I wish you a lot of strength and every success in getting every task accomplished.”
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted brigadier generals and major generals, Brig Gen Marek Banas delivered a message of gratitude for the support from the President and the top MOD and Armed Forces leaders, saying: „This is a really important milestone in a soldier’s life. We would like to assure you that we will never betray the trust that has been placed in us.“
