MINISTRY OF DEFENCE DEPLOYS SOLDIERS TO SUPPORT THE FIREFIGHTING EFFORT IN BANSKÁ ŠTIAVNICA

Slovak Armed Forces military personnel, including firefighters of the Defence Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS), will deploy immediately to help fight an extensive fire that broke out in the centre of Banská Štiavnica this morning. Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď, Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko, and Prime Minister Eduard Heger are right now on their way to Banská Štiavnica.
While receiving updates on the ongoing firefighting operation in four historic buildings, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď is in close contact with the Interior Ministry and Mayor of Banská Štiavnica Nadežda Babiaková.
In addition to the Defence firefighters and their firefighting equipment, military personnel will also deploy to the city to help evacuate the local archives and the museum objects from a nearby museum, should the fire spread to surrounding buildings.
The Slovak Armed Forces are always ready to deploy and support Slovak citizens on a 24/7 basis.
