Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď today received the Ambassador of Ukraine to Slovakia, His Excellency Myroslav Kastran, at MOD Main Building in Bratislava. The two sides discussed the situation in Ukraine, the justifiability of gifting military equipment to Ukraine, and additional options of assistance for war-stricken Ukrainians.
During the office call, Ukrainian Ambassador Myroslav Kastran thanked Slovakia for its humanitarian and military aid. Speaking of the recently delivered 13 MiG-29 Fulcrums and some of the SA-6 "Gainful" ("Kub") surface-to-air missile (SAM) system assets, he said: “The Ukrainian nation will remember Slovakia’s swift and selfless help forever.” Sharing his thoughts on Ukraine, Jaroslav Naď said: “Ukraine has had our support from the very beginning. Thanks to the flexibility and plasticity of our cooperation, we have succeeded in saving a large number of lives. Russian command must understand at last that this conflict brings nothing but death and destruction. But unlike the aggressor, Ukrainians are waging a just war for freedom and values that Putin’s regime in Russia has drowned in hatred – this is exactly why Ukraine is supported by the whole civilised world, this is exactly why it will stand on the side of the winners.”
Thankfully, Ambassador Kastran confirmed that the Slovak S-300 air defence system is still operational, saying that it has been effective in defending Ukrainian territory against Russian missile attacks. Once again, he appreciated that Slovakia was among the first countries to come to aid of Ukraine with combat effective weapons systems.
“Whether it be providing material support or training Ukrainian soldiers, our assistance is very much appreciated by our Ukrainian friends and they know they are not alone in all this,” Jaroslav Naď concluded.
