Minister at command meeting

SVK Minister of Defence Martin Glváč informed the supreme command of the SVK Armed Forces on a further strategy as to the planned modernization projects. That he did at the command meeting of Chief of the General Staff of the SVK Armed Forces, which was held in the presence of Commander-in-Chief of the SVK Armed Forces and President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska.
“The course of action we take derives from what is stipulated in the White Paper on Defence of the Slovak Republic and in the Concept of development of the Air Force. At the same time, we respond to what is required from us by the Alliance,” pointed out Head of the Defence Department. As he further stated, the wide public is being informed to the maximum extent of modernization projects. According to Minister Glváč, the command meeting is an excellent opportunity for holding a discussion. “I do believe that the next incentives will take shape and the basic requirement will be formulated at this meeting in support of the further development of the armed forces,” he said.
SVK President Andrej Kiska emphasized the modernization of the SVK Army, which was triggered by the present leadership of the defence department. “I greatly appreciated the engagement of our soldiers in deployed operations and I expressed my acknowledgement to the armed forces for their assistance to the citizens of our country at natural disasters or fires, which is what I value very highly,” said Commander-in-Chief of the SVK Armed Forces. With respect to the issue of modernization of the armed forces he stated that he is being informed, on a regular basis, by the Minister of Defence of all the plans and projects. “I have no doubts about the purchases which we communicated about with Minister of Defence,” he stressed.
SVK CHoD Lt Gen Milan Maxim evaluated performance of tasks in the past training year and introduced the goals set for the current year. He informed the leading officials of the Ministry of Defence and of the SVK Armed Forces of the strategic changes of the global security environment and of their implications on the armed forces. He introduced the intent and the tasks connected with the Slovak Presidency in the European Union Council in 2016.
The military specialized part of the meeting was focused on the topical issues of defence and security. It highlighted the intent behind the performance of tasks in the training year 2015, by functional areas. The course of transformation of the armed forces in a mid-term horizon was introduced, mainly in the field of training and exercises, to include the training strategy within the V4, as well as the intent of the future engagement in the international crisis management operations and the contribution of the SVK Armed Forces to NATO and EU response forces and declared forces.
“I do believe that the present year will be more favourable thanks to the new materiel and equipment, which will facilitate a smooth performance of tasks,” concluded Lt Gen Milan Maxim.
