Minister P. Gajdoš meets with U.S. Ambassador A. Sterling

Slovak Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš met with the Ambassador of the United States of America, His Excellency Mr Adam Sterling, for talks at MOD Main Building. The Minister thanked the US Congress for approving the Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) regarding the purchase of the new F-16 Block 70/72 fighter jets in response to the SVK Air Forceʼs modernization efforts.
Head of the SVK MOD updated the U.S. Ambassador on the MOD's strategic documents, which had been formulated by the MOD and which, following their approval by the SVK Security Council and Government, are now on their way to Parliament. On the importance of the strategic documents, the Minister remarked: “What matters to us is that the modernisation of the SVK Armed Forces should be systemic and systematic rather than a series of decisions on an ad hoc basis. In this respect, the Long-Term Defence Development Plan represents a plan for defence investments up until 2030.”
Another theme covered in the bilateral agenda was defence spending, where Minister Gajdoš reaffirmed Slovakia's commitment made at the Wales and Warsaw Summits and informed Ambassador Sterling of a hike in the 2018 SVK Defence Budget. They also discussed the SVK soldiers' deployment to Iraq, who are to deploy on a training mission still this year. In this connection, Minister Gajdoš reassured Ambassador Sterling that the fight against terrorism is among the priorities of the Slovak Republic.
